The type of work you do has to be amenable to being carried out at home or to being done on a different schedule. Some types of work benefit from, or even require, daily face-to-face contact with customers, co-workers or your supervisor; in other cases being out of the office a day or two a week is less of a problem. Depending on the nature of your job and the approval of your supervisor and/or appointing authority - you may want to look into the possibility of working from home some portion of the time or revising your schedule to work longer hours but fewer days a week. From a management perspective, telework programs have been shown to reduce absenteeism and increase productivity and are being used more often and by a larger number of employees over time.
