Commuting Less

Whether you're thinking about the cost of commuting, the time it takes, the traffic or the environmental impacts, the fewer commute trips needed to carry out your job...the better! CU-Boulder offers two possibilities for employees to commute less:

  • Work at home
  • Alternative work schedules

The type of work you do has to be amenable to being carried out at home or to being done on a different schedule. Some types of work benefit from, or even require, daily face-to-face contact with customers, co-workers or your supervisor; in other cases being out of the office a day or two a week is less of a problem. Depending on the nature of your job and the approval of your supervisor and/or appointing authority - you may want to look into the possibility of working from home some portion of the time or revising your schedule to work longer hours but fewer days a week. From a management perspective, telework programs have been shown to reduce absenteeism and increase productivity and are being used more often and by a larger number of employees over time.
