University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

The Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications for a part-time Teaching Assistant or an Ad hoc Lecturer of Japanese language for the 2009-10 academic year. The position is contingent upon enrollment and budget approval. Responsibilities include teaching five (5) class hours (50 minutes) plus office hours and participation in weekly meetings. The Teaching Assistant position is required to be admitted to the Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Graduate students who are enrolled in the Master of Arts in Foreign Language and Literature (MAFLL) are preferred. International Christian University: Instructor

The Japanese Language Program in the College of Liberal Arts at International Christian University (Tokyo) invites candidates for a full-time instructorship (five-year contract) starting April 1, 2010, to teach Japanese.

ICU is a private, bilingual liberal arts university with an undergraduate College of Liberal Arts and several graduate programs. ICU's educational mission is based on Christian and democratic principles. ICU has 3,000 students, from Japan and overseas. The university is located on a wooded campus in the suburbs of Tokyo.

The goal of the ICU Japanese Language Programs is to help students from abroad achieve greater competence in comprehending and producing both spoken and written Japanese, particularly in respect to carrying on academic studies in Japan.

Qualifications: (1) Master's degree or above in Japanese language teaching or related field; (2) Japanese teaching experience at the college level; (3) Ability to give lectures in English and Japanese.

St. Olaf College

The Department of Asian Studies at St. Olaf College invites applications for a visiting instructor position (half-time) in the Japanese language program for the 2009-10 academic year (with the possibility of renewal). The successful candidate will teach three courses during the academic year (two in fall and one in spring semester) at second and third or fourth year level courses. Minimum qualifications include an M.A. in Japanese language pedagogy, applied linguistics, or related fields; native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English; experience in teaching Japanese to English-speaking students at the college level; and commitment to undergraduate education. We prefer candidates who are interested in liberal arts setting, in incorporating instructional technology and culture learning in language instruction, in collaborating with other colleagues who are teaching languages in order to strengthen the Japanese language program and the Asian Studies department.

Wittenberg University
 

Wittenberg University seeks to fill a one-year visiting faculty position in Japanese at the instructor or assistant professor level to begin August 2009. The successful candidate must have a passion for teaching all levels of undergraduate Japanese language as well as for teaching in his/her area of specialization. Experience using the communicative approach and Genki textbook desired.

We seek a generalist with experience teaching language and culture employing innovative, interdisciplinary approaches, supports the goals of an education in the liberal arts, and would contribute to a flourishing East Asian Studies program. A Ph.D. in hand or near completion is preferred. Native or near-native fluency in English and Japanese, and college teaching experience required.   Bates College

The Asian Studies Program of this highly selective private liberal arts college, located in south-central Maine, invites applications and nominations for a one-year position (which will become a tenure-track position the following year after a national search) in Japanese and Asian Studies. Appointment will be at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2009. Duties include teaching courses in Japanese language and culture.       University of Minnesota

The Department of Asian Languages and Literatures in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota seeks a pool of applicants for a position as Japanese Teaching Specialist / Lecturer to teach language courses in Japanese. Positions will be full-time appointments for the fall semester, with the possibility of continuation on a full-time or part-time basis for additional semesters. If filled, these positions are for day, evening, or a combination of day/evening courses, taught on a semester basis. University of Montana

The University of Montana invites applications for a one-year non-renewable adjunct instructorship in Japanese in language (with a five-course load), beginning Fall 2009. Applicants with an ABD/Ph.D. are preferred, but MAs in the field with prior tertiary JSL teaching experience will also be considered. Candidates must also exhibit native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English and have documentation of excellence in teaching. A specialization in JSL pedagogy or applied linguistics or in a field of Japanese literature (with strong language-teaching skills and interests) is required. Courses to be taught are Beginning and Advanced level Japanese, plus one elective upper-division course in language (such as advanced readings) or literature (classical or medieval areas preferred). Western Michigan University

Earlham College: Language Fellow

Earlham College, a residential liberal arts college, invites applications for a Language Fellow position in the Japanese language program for the 2009-10 academic year (renewable). The TAs will provide academic support to adult learners and provide teaching assistance to instructors. -     Experience with software/website localization/translation
-     Previously worked as a tester to test accuracy and effectiveness of websites (desired)
