Professional Development SIG: Standards for Teachers and Teacher Educators: NBPTS |
If you are interested in going through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification process, the best way to learn about it is to sign up as an assessor. NBPTS and ETS are looking for qualified scorers or assessors for the World Languages Other than English (WLOE) certificates. All "non-candidates" who are practicing WLOE teachers may want to consider looking into being assessors during a two-week period during the summer. This is an excellent experience for pre-candidates to gain a better understanding of the WLOE National Board Certification assessment process. In addition, university graduate credit can be given for scoring. Scoring for portfolio entries for WLOE will be done in several locations this summer.
Miami (FL) 6/16-7/2
San Antonio (TX) and Daytona (FL) 7/14-8/1
Princeton (NJ), Las Vegas (NV), and Washington D.C. 7/14-25
Oklahoma City (OK) 7/14-25
Cincinnati (OH), Charleston (SC), Dallas (TX) 7/14-25
You will be compensated for your work and you will also receive a candidate fee waiver when you apply for the certification in 2003-2004.
Teachers who wish to assess candidate responses must minimally meet the following qualifications:
* A baccalaureate degree;
* A valid teaching license/certificate, if required by the school;
* A minimum of three years of teaching experience in a pre-K through 12 setting;
* Currently teaching at least half-time in the certificate area for which he or she is applying to assess or be a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in the certificate area;
* Not be a current or non-achieving candidate for National Board Certification; and
* Successful completion of assessor training (provided by NBPTS).
