Culture SIG

Language and Culture SIG Session at AAS Conference, April 2008

The Language and Culture SIG will meet during the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) conference in Atlanta. The SIG meeting will take place on Friday evening, April 4, from 7:00-9:00 p.m., in the Vancouver Room of the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The meeting will feature three presentations:

• Seiichi Makino (Princeton University), Presider.
• Masako A. Dorrill (Dillard University), "Toward an assessment of cultural understanding in the first two years of Japanese language instruction";
• Hitoshi Horiuchi (Brown University), "Conflict resolution and teaching culture in US college Japanese language programs";
• Ichiro Noguchi (Carthage College), "On perspectives, practices, and products: How to explain the Japanese culture with three P's".
