Endowment Growing ATJ has joined the ranks of other nonprofit organizations in establishing an endowment fund. Contributions to this fund (which are tax-deductible) will help to ensure that the Association can continue to provide services to members for many years in the future. Contributions to the Endowment were received in January from members Robert Borgen and Laurel Rasplica Rodd. Please consider joining their number at the annual general membership meeting in March, or by mail at any time. For more information, contact the ATJ office or any of the officers. Seeking New Members Enclosed with the latest issue of the Newsletter are copies of an ATJ membership promotion brochure. Please pass them on to colleagues or students, post them on bulletin boards, or send them to someone who might benefit from membership in the profession's leading association. As you know, ATJ membership brings with it regular delivery of the quarterly newsletter, semiannual journal, and other publications; chances to present and hear research reports on Japanese language, literature, and pedagogy at the annual ATJ Seminar; and the opportunity to meet and work with colleagues in the field both formally and informally. Membership is a bargain for students: please encourage your graduate students in particular to take advantage of the special student rates to begin their membership in the Association. Coordinating Editorship of ATJ Journal Changes Hands Pat Wetzel will be resigning her position as coordinating editor of the JATJ as of issue #34:1. Pat has served as coordinating editor since 1995, and also served as linguistics editor before taking on the duties of coordinating production of the Journal. She is grateful to all of the authors, reviewers, and other contributors during her tenure for their patience and cooperation. She is most especially thankful for having had the opportunity to work over the last five years with Maggie Childs, Van Gessell, Amy Heinrich, Hiroshi Nara, Laurel Rodd, Bob Russell, and Tim Vance. She leaves the production of future issues in Tim Vance's capable hands. | |
