Standards for Language Learning in the 21st Century, which includes the long-awaited Standards for Japanese Language Learning, has been published by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). In addition to the Japanese standards, the 474-page volume contains a revised version of the original generic standards for all foreign languages and language-specific standards for a number of other languages including Chinese, German, and classical languages. The Japanese Standards were the product of a collaborative effort, spanning several years, by a dedicated group of teachers at all levels of instruction and from around the United States. Many other teachers and researchers read the draft document and provided feedback; others provided learning scenarios which apply the standards to the classroom. The resulting document will be the base on which classroom teaching of Japanese is built
during the coming years. If you have
not already obtained a copy and would like one,
please contact: The cost of the volume is $25.00 (includes shipping within the U.S.). Publication of the latest version of the foreign language standards was fully funded by the National Standards in Foreign Language Education Collaboratie Project, and all proceeds from its sale will be used to provide professional development and other programs that will assist in the implementation of standards across the United States. | |
