Chancellor's Committee on Women | University of Colorado at Boulder

The Chancellor's Committee on Women (CCW) is an informed advocate for all women on the campus — classified and unclassified staff, tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty; instructors, undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, and administrators. As a representative committee of women across campus, our collective experience is diverse and proactive, and we are committed to the following ongoing goals:

  • We monitor the status of women on campus.
  • We recommend policy to create significant change.
  • We work to assure justice and equity for women at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

In May 2005, the CCW completed its most recent report, "Improving the Campus Environment for Women." Click here for a pdf version of the report.

As a committee that monitors the climate for women on campus, we are aware that we cannot know everything that affects women's experiences, but we are actively listening and are eager to learn what is important to women at CU-Boulder.

Announcements:

NOMINATIONS BEING SOUGHT!

CHANCELLOR'S COMMITTEE ON WOMEN ANNUAL AWARD

Know someone at CU who is an advocate for other women? Know a department that continually works to improve the climate for women at CU? Nominations of students, faculty, staff, departments, or units are currently being accepted for the annual Chancellor’s Committee on Women (CCW) annual award. All nominations are due Jan. 27, 2012, by 5 p.m. Please e-mail nominations to Jan.Owens@colorado.edu.

We ask that a nominator write a letter, including specific details, explaining why the person or unit should be recognized. Nominations that include 2 or 3 additional letters of support are likely to show breadth and depth of activities. Please also include the name and position of the person, or the name and mission of the unit. The committee will consider self-nominations as well. The award recipient(s) will be announced at the CU Women Succeeding Symposium, Feb. 23-24, 2012. See more information below on the symposium.

Please see our Awards link (also at left) for criteria.

CU WOMEN SUCCEEDING SYMPOSIUM BEING HELD ON CU-BOULDER CAMPUS FEB. 23-24, 2012

The 10th annual professional development symposium, CU Women Succeeding, will be held on the CU-Boulder campus Feb. 23-24. The theme is "building community" and the event, which is free, is designed for participants from all CU campuses. It entails two days filled with activities, workshops and discussions to further enhance professional development for women in academia. While there are many sponsors for CU Women Succeeding, the annual event is led by the CU Faculty Council Women's Committee.

GO HERE TO REGISTER and for more information on CU Women Succeeding.

The Keynote speaker is Marcy Benson, who served presidents, senators and judges in Washington, D.C., for 19 years and who has been actively involved with Children’s Hospital since moving to Colorado. She and her husband, University of Colorado President Bruce Benson, currently co-chair the Creating Futures campaign.

The Elizabeth D. Gee Memorial Lectureship Award recipient will present a lecture at the CU Women Succeeding event Feb. 24 luncheon. The Gee Award is the only award in the CU system that specifically recognizes outstanding work on women's issues and a concerted effort to advance women in the academy. It carries with it a $1,000 prize. Information on past winners can be found at: http://www.cu.edu/facultycouncil/awards/elizabeth-gee.html.

The Chancellor's Committee on Women is extremely proud that one of its former co-chairs, Dr. Joanne Belknap, was a recent recipient of the Gee Award.

Dr. Joanne Belknap Wins the Elizabeth Gee Award!

The Chancellor's Committee on Women would like to acknowledge that Dr. Joanne Belknap, a CU-Boulder sociologist, won the 2008 Elizabeth D. Gee Memorial Lectureship Award, which recognizes and honors an outstanding CU faculty member for efforts to advance women in academia, interdisciplinary scholarly contributions and distinguished teaching. Established in 1992, the award honors the late Elizabeth Gee, the wife of former CU President Gordon Gee and a faculty member of the CU College of Nursing. Congratulations Joanne!
