The Disability Services Gift Fund
in conjunction with The CU Foundation

Overview: How DS is funded
Financial donations to Disability Services are greatly appreciated. Outside contributions to our department help us support programs that are beyond the reach of our base budget.  Our base budget, the university’s allocation provided to Disability Services to run the program, is truly meant to be “bare bones!” Besides staff salaries, the budget covers operating expenses for such things as supplies, phones, contractual costs for services, advertising, printing of brochures or other informational publications.

How gift funds are utilized
Gift funds are enhancements to the program.  As the university’s base budget shrinks, our gift funds become ever more precious in continuing programs that might otherwise be cut.  Gift funds pay for the Disability Services writing lab that provides one-on-one support to students needing writing assistance.  The Terri Bodhaine Memorial provides scholarships to students with a disability and financial need.  Named after a past Disability Services director, much needed cash goes directly to students to help them pay for books, supplies, tuition or other semester expenses.

Our Gift funds also support DS programs that we know our students need. One such program is the Career Program for Students with Disabilities (CPSD). CPSD pays stipends for student internships where they gain real-life work experience.

Gift dollars support staff as well, keeping them on the cutting edge of disability issues through local and away workshops, speakers, and national conferences. Additionally, Disability Services hosts an annual conference on assistive technology in higher education that brings together one to two hundred national and international attendees from other colleges for a four day forum on technology and disabilities.

Without the generous support of concerned individuals and families, the Disability Services department on this campus would indeed be “bare bones.” What makes our program stand out over and above other campus disability departments across the country are the people who believe in our mission at CU Boulder, and help us make it happen.

The Contribution Process
Potential donorsreceive an annual letter with a mail-in contribution card that is pre-addressed to the CU Foundation. Contributing to the Disability Services central gift fund or the Terri Bodhaine Memorial is easy using this process. If you would like to earmark your gift to a particular program, a separate fund can be established. Please call or email the director of the department or the business manager to discuss special donations beyond the scope of the main gift fund. If we can accommodate your wishes with our programmatic needs we will initiate the necessary arrangements with the foundation. Your financial support is truly important to us.
