Services for Students
with Vision Impairments Mission:
Resources and Equipment The lab consists of five adaptive workstations, four PC machines, and one Macintosh system. A satellite station is also available in Norlin Library. Adaptations include the following: speech controlled computers; screen readers (voice output) and screen enlargement; alternate and ergonomic keyboards, adaptive and ergonomic pointing devices; scanning and Optical Character Recognition systems with voice output for access to hard-copy items; closed circuit TV for enlarging hard copy material; ergonomic furniture and workstation accessories; Braille printers. Stop by for information! Watch for workshops! In addition to training and support services, the lab is a resource for assistive technology information. The lab conducts open houses and workshops, where faculty, staff, and students are able to learn about and evaluate adaptive and ergonomic equipment. Faculty and staff are also invited to stop by informally to ask questions and learn how assistive technology might benefit their students. Populations Served and Eligibility All students, staff, and faculty with a documented disability are eligible to reserve lab time and receive other direct services from the Assistive Technology Lab.
