CU-Boulder’s Digital Humanities Initiative kicks off the fall semester with a pre-conference seminar at COLTT 2009 (Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology conference).

This seminar brings together faculty and staff interested in learning more about digital humanities projects and centers around the country. Here's the schedule:

8:45-9:00: Caffeinate & Feed
9:00-9:45: Mark Winokur and Steve Bailey give an overview of digital humanities and DHI@CU
10:00-12:00: Faculty presentations about projects, centers, resources associated with digital humanities
12:00-12:45: Eat and converse
12:45-2:00: Critical dialogue about digital humanities: Is digital humanities really different from "print" humanities or "cave painting" humanities? What does it mean for the academy, for humanities, for researchers?
2:00-2:45: Deborah Keyek-Franssen leads a next steps discussion

Overview of DHI

The Digital Humanities Initiative (DHI) at the University of Colorado at Boulder is a collaborative effort to promote and foster digitial humanities scholarship on the CU-Boulder campus.

The initiative is supported by a sub-committee of humanities, libraries, and academic technology faculty and staff. Together, those working on DHI are attempting to address and meet the demands of a new form of humanities scholarship molded by digital technology.

To do this, the DHI sub-committee is charged with developing a series of workshops and events that will educate faculty and staff in the area of the digital humanities. Potential topics for these workshops and events include digital literacy, skills acquisition, preservation and accessibility of digital works, sustainability, and publishing..
