Given the recent political climate, scientific outreach is more important than ever. The McMurdo Dry Valleys LTER (MCM LTER) has taken the outreach challenge and stepped into the public spotlight. Journalists from The New York Times visited the Dry Valleys to explore the world's coldest desert. Last week's published article gives the public insight into Antarctica's extreme environment.
Additionally, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was welcomed down to the Lake Hoare field camp. Bourdain hosts CNN's Parts Unknown and his production crew shot a special episode, Parts Unknown on Antarctica, that aired on the 4th of June. Michael Gooseff, MCM LTER lead PI, describes in his own CU Boulder College of Engineering article that Bourdain's presence brought a fresh wave of excitement to the 2016/17 field season.
