Sandra Person Burns
One of the nationís distinguished advisors in the field of health care delivery and financing, Sandra Person Burns has led value improvement purchasing initiatives among business, labor, government, and health care providers in more than 12 cities. As president of two business coalitions in Houston and Atlanta, Burns worked with Fortune 100 corporations to implement strategies to improve the quality and efficiency of purchased health care services. Drawing from her experience in executive management of health plans at CIGNA, John Hancock, and Kaiser, she was able to influence corporate decisions which led to affordable and dependable managed care services, as well as incorporating strategies to improve community and worker health.
Burns was national chair of the Citizenís Committee for Biomedical Ethics and a member of the executive committee of the National Business Coalition on Health. She was executive director of the Purchaser Initiatives Division for MediQual Systems, leading payor-initiated hospital quality improvement projects in Birmingham, Orlando, Houston, Kalamazoo, and eight other cities. She was also chief executive officer of Principal Health Care of Louisiana and is currently president of Mississippiís largest provider-sponsored managed care company.
Burns is a trustee of Baptist Health Systems Foundation and is past president of the Mississippi Opera Association board of directors. She is a member of the International Womenís Forum and is on the board of directors of The University Club of Jackson and the Mississippi Girl Choir. She also serves on the executive committee of the Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross and is a member of the board of directors of the Rotary Club of North Jackson.
She attended Mississippi State University and holds an MS degree in economics from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey.
