Ruth Oratz
Ruth Oratz is associate professor of clinical medicine at New York University School of Medicine. She is a board certified medical oncologist who specializes in treating women with breast cancer and other malignancies, and those at high risk for cancer. A fellow of the American College of Physicians, Oratz graduated from Radcliffe College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed her post-doctoral training in internal medicine and medical oncology at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine in New York City. Oratz, in practice since 1988, has been active in clinical research and is widely published in her field. She is especially committed to helping the woman with cancer continue to live her life actively and fully, placing significant attention on flexible treatment programs and those that address women's concerns about career, family life, relationships, and sexuality.
Oratz is also involved in medical ethics and medical humanities. She is co-chair of the Ethics Committee at Tisch Hospital, NYU School of Medicine and teaches ethics to medical students and house-officers both in the lecture hall and at the bedside. She is on the faculty of the Masters Scholars Program at NYU. Oratz also taught medical humanities and bioethics at the University of Colorado in both the undergraduate programs and the Law School.
Oratz is active both locally and nationally as a speaker and health care educator, appearing on television and radio as well as lecturing to the public. She is an advisor to several national organizations, including breastcancer.org, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, Cancer and Careers, Young Survival Coalition, and Sharsheret: Linking Young Jewish Women in Their Fight Against Breast Cancer. Oratz was named Physician of the Year by Cancer Care in 2005. She also has been listed in “The Best Doctors in America" in Redbook Magazine and "The Best Doctors in NYC" in New York Magazine. She recently started playing the piano again.
