As president of Social Change International, Lael Stegall uses her 25 years of social change experience in providing counsel to executive leadership of non-profit organizations and foundations on leadership, programs, fund development, and communications in both domestic and international settings. The centerpiece of her work is the STAR Network of World Learning that she founded and has co-directed since 1994. Offering encouragement, technical, and financial support, STAR is working with a new generation of women in the Yugoslav Successor States who have transitioned from victimization to survival and now lead new civil society initiatives engaged in multi-ethnic cooperation and democratization. She is an unabashed optimist about the power of women to work boldly for positive change in a violent world. Lael finds that the challenges for social change activists know no borders. Her recent work with Women Waging Peace, a Harvard sponsored project with leaders from the world's conflict zones, and the Maine Women's Lobby addresses common issues of media, money, and management.
As a founder of the National Women's Political Caucus, the National Network of Grantmakers, other social change philanthropies, and the Communications Consortium Media Center, Stegall practices the lessons she teaches for social change activism.
