Mike Marlier is in his 16th year as the director of Drum Set Studies for the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver and is a widely respected and versatile drum set player. Since moving to Colorado from Ohio in 1981, he has performed and recorded with Kenny Loggins, Nelson Rangell, Lannie Garrett, Dotsero, Dave Valentin, Ernie Watts, Tiny Tim, and the GRP All-Stars, in addition to recording countless radio and TV commercials.
Marlier first played at the Conference on World Affairs in 1989 and, together with Bijoux Barbosa on bass, has been honored to be part of the conference numerous times since then. He is also the staff drummer at the Mile Hi Church and the music coordinator for the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble. In addition, Marlier maintains a busy clinic and master class schedule and can be found adjudicating high school and college jazz festivals all over the country. His versatile approach to the drum set has allowed for a vast, diverse body of work, and it is from these experiences that he draws in his teaching, creating a curriculum that is thorough and engaging.
