John "Chip" Stephens has performed on Hot House, the Grammy Award winning CD by Arturo Sandoval and on the Emmy Award winning sound track For Love or Country about the life of Sandoval. Sought after for his outstanding collaborative abilities, Stephens can be heard on nearly 50 records and CDs as a side-man.
Currently on the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Stephens maintains a very diverse teaching and performing career at both the national and international levels. He has performed on four continents with some of the most prestigious names in jazz. He performs extensively in Europe, around the world, nationally, and in Canada. He frequently appears as a guest artist and clinician throughout the United States and Europe. A former faculty member at The University of Colorado at Boulder and Youngstown State Universities, Stephens has a great deal of teaching experience, and many of his students have received national and international recognition for their work.
