Yoshino Funaki is currently pursuing a masterís degree in international relations at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in between bouts of karaoke and ping pong. Prior to this degree, she worked in East Timor with the UN mission and United Nations Development Programme.
Funaki, who is half German and half Japanese, was born in London and has lived in Germany, Italy, the U.S., and East Timor. She is thoroughly confused as to her national identity. Prior to working with the United Nations, she spent a year working with international non-governmental organizations in sustainable development and human rights education.
Her first degree from the University of Edinburgh was in English literature and philosophy, which is both connected, and also completely unrelated, to her current course of study and work.
