Azmat Hassan joined the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations in 2000. A career diplomat in the service of Pakistan, Ambassador Hassan brings 33 years of diplomatic experience to the school.
During the course of his career, Hassan served as Pakistanís official representative to Malaysia, Syria, and, most recently, Morocco. He also worked on the staff of the Prime Minister of Pakistan as Additional Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Defense and was the former representative of Pakistan to the United Nations.
A frequent commentator on international affairs for television and radio, Hassan writes widely on foreign affairs for the international press. In 1991, the Ambassador received the Syrian Order of Merit. He has also been honored by King Mohamed VI of Morocco for promoting bilateral relations.
Hassan received his BA in economics, political science, and history from Punjab University in Lahore, Pakistan. He holds an MA in economics from Cambridge University and an MS in strategic studies from Quaid-E-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan.
