Michael Stoff is a historian of the modern United States. He is the author of Oil, War, and American Security and co-author of Nation of Nations: A Narrative History of the American Republic, American Journey: The Quest for Liberty, and The American Nation. He is also co-editor of The Manhattan Project: A Documentary Introduction to the Atomic Age and series co-editor of the Oxford New Narratives in American History. Stoff has lectured widely on modern American history, the American presidency, and American foreign affairs. He has been honored many times for his teaching, most recently with election to the Academy of Distinguished Teachers.
Stoff received his BA from Rutgers University and his masters and PhD from Yale University. After teaching at Yale, he moved to the University of Texas at Austin where he is currently a member of the history department. There he has served as director of the history honors program and the graduate program in history. At present, Stoff is director of the Plan II Honors Program, one of the oldest and most prestigious core curricula in the country.
