Rony Barrak began playing darbouka, an Arabic tabla, at the age of four. He first appeared on stage at six, followed at seveb by his first appearance on Lebanese national television. At the age of 17, Barrak achieved the status of gold medal for darbouka in the young musicians’ competition. This was when he realized he wanted to become a professional musician. Barrak moved to London in 1990 to study all styles of western music.
As the world’s leading Middle Eastern percussionist, he has been involved with many top artists including Led Zeppelin with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Vanessa Mae, Ziad al Rahbani, Fairuz, Talvin Singh, Neneh Cherry and Natasha Atlas. Over the years, Barrak has participated in percussion workshops, teaching, theatrical productions and film music. His love for jazz and classical music also inspired him to further studies in drums and orchestral percussion. Barrak is currently on a world-wide tour with Sara Brightman.
