Johanna Stoyva was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, and raised in Boulder, Colorado, where she graduated from Boulder High School. She attended the Sorbonne and the University of Chicago, where she obtained her B.A. in English. After working as a reporter in Chicago for several years, she moved to New York, where she wrote a novel. In 1993, she moved to the Netherlands and began working as assistant editor of the arts and entertainment magazine Time Out Amsterdam, later becoming editor of the online version. In 1998, she decided to return to her first love, news and current affairs. She began working as a news writer at Radio Netherlands International, where she went on to become press reviewer and then producer/presenter of the current affairs program, Newsline. A former member of the U.S. Freestyle Skiing Team, Johanna currently enjoys running and cycling. She’s just bought her first apartment in Amsterdam.
Stoyva recently traveled to Cairo to make a program for Radio Netherlands International about the first woman to be appointed to the Supreme Constitutional Court there, Tahany el-Gabaly.
