Clare Muireann Murphy
Clare Muireann Murphy is a freelance artist. She works as a storyteller, social entrepreneur, and writer. Now based in London, she collaborates with artists, teachers, companies, and universities around the world, having performed in more than 20 countries.
Murphy tells stories in English and Spanish and has been storyteller in residence and guest lecturer at many universities, including Vanderbilt University, Indiana University, Penn State, and the Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture at the University of Manitoba at Winnipeg, Canada.
With a background in theater and writing, Murphy has worked as a performer, social entrepreneur, producer, coach, director, project manager, and consultant. She has worked with many renowned stages and companies including the Globe Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the National Theatre, London. She has also worked with marginalized communities and has used storytelling to combat issues such as racism and exclusion. A community storytelling night that she founded ran for five years.
Murphy is part of the Talking Skull Ensemble, a collective dedicated to exploring and developing the art of storytelling in the contemporary world, and runs a salon in London for artists and curiosists. She also works with an international group of storytellers to answer questions about the state of storytelling, such as where are the stories to represent the LGBQT communities? Dedicated to the word, spoken or written, Murphy is an advocate for wonder and curiosity.
