Azmat Hassan

S. Azmat Hassan is visiting professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in Pakistan. He held various teaching positions at the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Seton Hall University, New Jersey, from 20002009. Earlier in his diplomatic career, he served as ambassador of Pakistan to Malaysia, Syria, and Morocco. At the foreign ministry in Pakistan, Hassan was head of the Middle East division from 199192 and served as additional secretary to the prime minister of Pakistan from 199294.

Hassan is currently teacing courses at LUMS on the politics of terrorism, U.S. involvement in the Middle East, the modern Middle East, and the geo-politics of South Asia. His keynote essay on perspectives on Pakistan was published in 2006 by the Cambridge Scholars Press in Home and the World: South Asia in Transition.

Hassan has been active in the media, giving numerous TV and radio interviews on current international issues. In February 2008, he was a guest on the popular One on One with Steve Adubato show. He received a BA in economics, political science, and history from Panjab University in Lahore, Pakistan; an MA in economics from Cambridge University; and an MS in strategic studies from the Quaid-E-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan.
