In 2007, the University of Colorado Boulder was one of the original signatories to the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) and has drafted the Conceptual Plan for Carbon Neutrality (CPCN) for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that has been formally adopted by the university. The goals established in the CPCN are:

By 2015 attain the following goals as compared to a 2005 baseline:

  • 15% energy intensity reduction
  • 13% reduction in paper consumption
  • 15% reduction in water consumption
  • 9% volumetric decrease in petroleum fuel
  • A zero-waste goal for all construction projects and operations of all facilities

Concurrent Greenhouse Gas (GHG) goals relative to a 2005 baseline are:

  • 20% GHG reduction by 2020
  • 50% GHG reduction by 2030
  • 80% GHG reduction by 2050
  • FY 13-15 Goals (PDF)

These goals also help us meet the Governor’s Greening of the State Government executive order.

We encourage you to read through the many different sections on this website to learn how we are working towards these very challenging goals.  Also see the Facilities Master Plan Website for more information.
