Welcome to the May 2007 issue of CU4K12 News.
Each month, this newsletter
highlights K-12 outreach
programs from the University
of Colorado at Boulder
campus as well as our exciting CU Wizards
program. There are more than 200 listings
on the CU4K12 site, with programs designed
to augment a wide array of K-12 curricula.
All programs that are featured in the newsletter
are open to broad enrollment. For more information

"Waves That Changed the World" and
the 30th Birthday Party
for the CU-Wizards!
Saturday, May 19, 2007,
9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in Duane Physics and
Astrophysics, G1B30.
This month’s presentation
features waves that changed
the way we communicate,
starting from telegraph
and radio, to satellite
TV, computer networks
and cell phones, are
electromagnetic waves
in the radio and optical
frequency range. Learn
about antennas, police
radar, lasers and wireless.
Help us explode things
in microwave ovens (in
a safe way), pop balloons
with lasers and have
a night-vision battle
with remote controls.

Popovic and Dana Anderson
aka "Mr. and Mrs.
Wizard!" The CU
Wizards Program is an
entertaining and informal
introduction to astronomy,
biology, chemistry and
physics for science enthusiasts
in fifth through ninth
grades, but all ages
are welcome to come learn,
have fun, and experience
science hands-on.
Join CU-Boulder for a celebration of 30
years of the CU Wizards, held directly
after the Saturday May 19 presentation
on the Duane Physics lawn (rain location
inside Balch Fieldhouse). Meet with CU’s
costumed mascot, Chip, and explore fun
science presentations from Fiske
Planetarium ,
the CU
Museum of Natural History and the Science
Discovery program.

middle-school students. For high-school students,
