Welcome to the March 2007 issue of CU4K12 News. Each month, this newsletter highlights two K-12 outreach programs from the University of Colorado at Boulder campus as well as our exciting CU Wizards program. There are more than 200 listings on the CU4K12 site, with programs designed to augment a wide array of K-12 curricula. All programs that are featured in the newsletter are open to broad enrollment. College of Engineering and Applied Science

 Looking for new and exciting ways to teach math and science concepts?  The College of Engineering and Applied Science has numerous resources for parents and educators. CEAP offers profession development workshops, can bring engineering students into your classrooms, or view their online resource TeachEngineering digital library of standards-based K-12 curricula for use by K-12 teachers is searchable by school subject, grade level, key words, standards, activity or lesson. The ITLL (Intergrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory) makes a great filed trip, with hands on activities, exhibits and much more.

The BUENO Center for Multicultural Education

The BUENO Center for Multicultural Education is an integral part of the School of Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Through a comprehensive range of research, training and service projects, the center strongly promotes quality education with an emphasis on cultural pluralism. What’s going on with the CU Wizards this month?

 “At the End of the Rainbow”

“Why is laser light so special?" "How does a laser work?" "What colors can a laser emit?" "Can you make a laser from jello?" "How are lasers used to transmit your phone calls and e-mail?"

Join Professors Henry Kapteyn and Margaret Murnane to explore all these questions! The CU Wizards Program is an entertaining and informal introduction to astronomy, biology, chemistry and physics for science enthusiasts in fifth through ninth grades.

The CU Wizards Program provides an informal, entertaining and interactive introduction to chemistry, physics, biology and astronomy. Concepts are aimed at students in the fifth to ninth grades, but all ages are welcome to come learn, have fun, and experience science hands-on. Shows are held at 9:30 AM on the CU Boulder campus, one Saturday each month from September through June and last approximately one hour. The CU Wizards are CU professors in the sciences who donate their knowledge, time, expertise and energy creating entertaining and engaging science shows for free to the public.

CU-Boulder Community Relations regularly plans excursions to the Boulder campus. We can arrange for a variety of experiences, including meeting with current students, campus tours, science shows, and much more.
