Colorado History Day
Colorado History Day is an affiliate of the largest yearlong national humanities education program in the country. The program is designed for teachers and students in grades 6-12. This competition provides a context for teachers and students to improve their knowledge of history, making them better-prepared and knowledgeable citizens. Students produce research papers, dramatic performances, imaginative exhibits and multimedia documentaries on research related to an annual theme. This year's theme is "Communication in History: The Key to Understanding." The CU-Boulder Department of History sponsors the state competition on April 23, 2005.
The University of Colorado at Boulder will also be one of several locations hosting a State Winners Workshop on Saturday, April 30, 2005. This workshop will allow students who won at the state level to receive individual feedback and critique on their project from experienced History Day judges.

Earthworks: Earth Systems Education for Secondary Science Teachers
Earthworks is a free one-week Earth systems science workshop for secondary science teachers from all around the country. Educators will get an opportunity to work with practicing Earth Scientists from the University of Colorado and create their own field-based research program. The goals of the program are to provide teachers with an introduction to Earth systems science that will encourage and enable them to share that understanding with others, and help develop a larger Earth systems science community.
To help gain a better understanding of the Earth's systems, all fieldwork, workshops and observations are conducted in the Rocky Mountains. Teachers will have the opportunity to develop various teaching techniques and labs that they can in turn take back to their classrooms.
