Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs (CACMA)

Mission Statement

Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs (CACMA) is dedicated to enhancing the University's climate for diversity, multiculturalism and social justice. The Committee assesses the campus environment and advises the Chancellor. It is also a resource for all university departments and individuals seeking to improve CU-Boulder's climate for diversity.

To carry out this charge, CACMA seeks to:

  • Enhance awareness of issues that affect people of color. This includes organizing and implementing an annual campus-wide summit on diversity.
  • Influence policy that affects people of color.
  • Support, recognize, and advocate for efforts to promote diversity, multiculturalism, and social justice within the campus community.

Chancellor's Charge to the Committee

The Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs (CACMA) was appointed in 1987 as an advisory body to the Chancellor of the University of Colorado at Boulder in matters relating to the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and students of color.

Diversity Service Recognition Award and      Criteria

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 Diversity Service Recognition Awards.  The deadline for submissions is Thursday, January 24, 2008.

These awards, sponsored by the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs (CACMA), are given to campus units to recognize their continuing efforts to create a diverse and supportive, learning, working, and living environment, as well as their commitment to promoting an understanding of multicultural issues.

In an effort to recognize the many groups contributing to diversity at CU-Boulder, nominations are limited to campus units that have not been previously selected (see award recipients). The recipients will be chosen by a selection panel composed of members from CACMA. Two or three awards will be presented, depending on the number and quality of the nominations.

Any member of the Boulder campus community may nominate a campus unit for this award.  In this case, a unit is defined as any group (academic, administration, alumni, etc.) that is affiliated with the CU-Boulder campus. The letter of nomination should describe how the unit has functioned as a whole to promote and put into effect the ideals of a diverse and multicultural Boulder campus community.  Specific examples should be given, demonstrating the active role of the campus unit in different areas of campus life, the unique contributions of the unit, and the participation of different members of the unit.

In addition to consideration of the overall contributions of the nominated campus unit, particular attention will be given to those groups that:

a) Have a record of service for the Boulder campus community
b) Serve a broad spectrum of members of the Boulder community, including students, staff, faculty and/or the community at large
c) Promote education, communication, collaboration, service and support in their activities.

The closing date for nominations is Thursday, January 24, 2008.  These awards will be presented at a special ceremony in February 2008.

Nominators should submit an original electronic copy and four hard copies of their nomination (and any supporting documentation) to:
