Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a network of comprehensive services and innovative programs that support and advance the intellectual, personal, cultural, and social development of diverse students.

Our Vision

The University, as well as the larger society, is greatly enriched and strengthened by diversity.  By sharing diverse life experiences, perspectives and aspirations, an inclusive learning environment is created.  Diversity prepares us for a rich and progressive way of thinking because it challenges us to move beyond our conventional assumptions and reactions.

To this end, we enhance our long-standing commitment to multiculturalism and social justice by . . .

  • promoting access to higher education
  • helping students attain their educational goals
  • fostering individual expression & exchange of diverse thought
  • creating an inclusive environment through community engagement
  • developing socially responsible students that are prepared to lead in the 21st century
  • providing direction in support of CU-Boulder's commitment to diversity

At the Center for Multicultural Affairs, providing a welcoming place where students and other university members can express themselves is paramount.

Counseling services and programs offered are designed to help students empower themselves to explore, develop, and realize their academic, personal, and cultural strengths, as well as help them make valuable connections within the university community. A culturally diverse team of professional counselors and student mentors with specialized training in working with diverse people, welcome the opportunity to counsel and guide students throughout their college experience.

For more than three decades, the Center has been instrumental in helping CU tap diversity as a vital educational and societal resource. Opportunities for the wider university community to enhance their understanding and appreciation of diverse communities are available through CMA's diversity education program.
