The CDI manages ongoing programs that support its mission, serves as the institutional liaison to several national consortia, and provides data and text to strengthen the broader impacts statements of grant proposals for STEM faculty. Programs administered by the CDI include: the SMART program, a 10-week summer research internship that prepares underrepresented undergraduates from institutions nation-wide for STEM graduate education and provides professional development opportunities for current doctoral students; the Colorado Advantage program, which brings prospective underrepresented PhD applicants to CU Boulder for a fall weekend to meet faculty, tour facilities, and interact with current underrepresented STEM graduate students; the Diversity Fellowship program, which awards one-time diversity fellowships to newly admitted doctoral students as an additional incentive to enroll at CU Boulder. The CDI serves as the CU Boulder institutional liaison to the Leadership Alliance, the GEM National Consortium, and the National Name Exchange. The CDI also organizes exhibit booths to recruit prospective graduate students at the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) and Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) national conferences.
