The Arapaho Language through Time

Arapaho words look very different today in comparison to the probable original forms used many centuries ago. Linguists have reconstructed an original Proto-Algonquian language by comparing the various languages of today. Based on this original language, the evolution of Arapaho sounds can be worked out on an approximate basis.

Fly (insect):

Proto-Algonquian = sakimeewa
Arapaho = noubee
Watch the word evolve over time.

Bear:

Proto-Algonquian = malkwa
Arapaho = wox
Watch the word evolve over time.
