FAQ for Students

What will be the cost per page?

B&W: First side of print $.10/second side of same sheet $0.09; Color: $0.50/page

How does a user pay for and release a print job?

In labs, users swipe a Buff OneCard at the Print Release Station (PRS). They can then select the job they want to print from the queue and the cost of the job will be displayed. That amount is charged against their quota or balance in their Campus Cash Account when the job is printed.

What is the process for re-charging the card?

Students can add value to their accounts at the Campus Card Office, at a Value Transfer Station (VTS), or by visiting the On-Line Card Office.

Students may also add value with check or cash at any Imaging Services copy center.

Will there be localized stations (like at Kinko’s) for re-charging the Buff OneCard?

Value Transfer Stations (VTS) located at Norlin Library and the Law Library, Campus Card Office or On-Line Card Office. Making deposits by credit card is available 24/7 via the web’s On-Line Card Office.

How long does it take before you can use the funds on your account after recharging?

Immediately when made by the web, VTS machine or at the Campus Card Office. Deposits are posted to your account in real-time using any of these methods.

What methods of payment will be accepted?

Campus Card Office will accept cash, major credit cards, ACARDs, and IN’s. Visitors to the web site can use a major credit card.

Will Lab Advisors have rights to manage the print queues?

No. Users will manage their own jobs in the queue. Abandoned jobs are removed automatically.

Will students be given an initial credit each semester from their lab fees currently paid with tuition that currently pays for printer use and consumables?

Yes. For more information regarding student quota, click here.

Will there be a bulk rate if more pages are paid for in advance?

No. The same rate is charged regardless of whether they are paid in advance or the number of pages printed.

Will users be able to submit print jobs from the wireless network?

Yes. In most areas, users will be able to send jobs to printers in nearby computing labs.

If double sided print option is used, will it be charged as one page or two; or is there some kind of discount since there is less paper being used?

Printing both sides counts as two pages, however the 2nd page is discounted. The rates are as follows...B&W: First side of print $.10/second side of same sheet $0.09. This is to incent customers to save paper whenever possible.

If the Print Release Station malfunctions, how would a student pay for and release a print job?

The PRS is required to release a job. If it is out of service, Information Technology Services (ITS) will dispatch a technician promptly. If the facility has multiple PRS’s, the job can be paid for and released at one of these other stations.

Where and how would a student report printing problems?

If you need help, have questions, problems, or concerns call the IT Service Center at (303) 735-HELP (5-4357), or email help@colorado.edu.

If a student has forgotten their Buff OneCard or has insufficient funds is there anyway to defer payment, especially students who need their paper printed immediately?

No, they must have a credit balance in their quota or in their Campus Cash Account on the Buff OneCard system. Anyone can purchase a Patron Card at Norlin or the Law Library VTS, which will allow them to print.

If a student loses their Buff OneCard is there a way to stop access on that card so others can’t use it?

Yes, the cardholder should contact the Campus Card Office immediately through the On-Line Card Office or by calling (303) 492-1212. Using either method will suspend your accounts and card until you visit the Campus Card Office in person to re-activate your suspended card.

Will students be charged for prints required for class?

Can students bring in their own paper, laminates, transparencies, cardstock, legal size, or resume paper, etc and not be charged?
