Dear Class,
Just a few helpful hints on the homework due Monday. For problem 2-28, you will be dealing with x, or the fraction of total mass that is vapor. Remember, x lies between 0 and 1, with 0 being saturated liquid and 1 being saturated vapor. Anything in between is a saturated mixture. To find the propety of a mixture, remember it equals the saturated liquid value plus x times the difference between the value of the saturated vapor and the saturated liquid. If you are given the value of the property and you need to find x, it's the difference between the value of the property and the value of the saturated liquid, divided by the difference between the values of the saturated vapor and saturated liquid. Writing it as an equation for specific volume: x = (v - vf)/vfg. If you have any questions, just email me. Janet deGrazia
