Alex Martinez

Alex Martinez

My name is Alexander Martinez. I’m a senior studying MCDB, Neuroscience and Psychology, and a Peer Educator at CU Boulder’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

This year I’ll be continuing the work of Mifa Kim, who did an incredible job of creating content for and spreading the word about the How to Help a Friend (HHF) project. Suicide and crisis prevention in particular is something I am involved in outside of CAPS and so I hope to bring more focus to suicide prevention throughout the year.

I currently work in an IPHY lab that investigates ways of building resiliency to stress and I plan on continuing to work there after I graduate, and to eventually apply to a graduate program in Genetic Counseling. I am also a Norlin Scholar.

Outside of class and work I like to cook, spend time with my family and friends, read and play videogames.

Ruth Sanchez

Ruth Sanchez

Ruth is a junior majoring in Integrative Physiology. She plans on pursuing a medical degree. She is interested in pursuing a career in public health and integrative health care. As a peer educator, Ruth will be working on an outreach project to the Greek community providing education, resources and support while reducing stigma surrounding mental health.

Outside of CAPS, Ruth serves on the leadership board of the volunteer medical group, Timmy Global Health and is a proud member of Alpha Phi sorority. She works as a learning assistant and tutor for the CU Chemistry department and the Health Professions Residential Academic Program. In her spare time, Ruth enjoys reading, hiking and spending time with her friends.
