Maximizing safety, minimizing light pollution

Nighttime security is especially important this time of year, as Daylight Savings Time brings darkness to campus in the early evening. A group of staff and students from Facilities Management, Housing & Dining Services, the CU Police Department, UCSG and more undertook a campus night walk on November 5 to assess lighting needs and identify areas for improvement. The group also aims to minimize light pollution for the benefit of research programs with night-sky observational components (such as Fiske Planetarium) as well as for campus sustainability goals.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to report outdoor lights that are not functioning, or other outdoor lighting-related issues, to 303-492-5522.
