Grief Support Group - Faculty and Staff Assistance Program

Eight weeks of support and education focusing on "Grieving"

  • Dates: 8 Fridays (October 5, 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, and 30)
  • Time: 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
  • Location: UMC 353
  • Facilitator: Ben Leonard, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Being bereaved can be an overwhelming experience, and is often confusing and frightening. However, while bereavement can be quite painful, it is not a sickness or an abnormal condition. It is not something to be “cured” or “fixed.” Rather, it is part of the natural human response to losing someone close to us. It has been said that bereavement is the cost of loving and being loved.

This group will meet once a week in a group setting for those who are recently bereaved or just beginning the grief process. Sessions include information about grief, support to determine your own needs and coping skills, and time to share experiences. Handouts will provide additional material that can be shared with others. A licensed staff counselor will facilitate the group process, provide information and understanding in a safe, supportive and accepting environment.
