This month, the Wardenburg Health Center is seeing unusually early confirmed flu activity. Students have been quite sick, often with very high fevers. The flu strain (H3N2) that is circulating is generally associated with more severe flu symptoms. Flu shots are available on campus at Wardenburg Health Center for students, staff, and faculty on a walk-in basis (no appointment necessary) Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Flu shots are safe and effective and this year’s vaccine is a very close match to the circulating strain (H3N2). The vaccine is $20 for staff, faculty, and students without university insurance or FREE for students with Gold Health Insurance or the Wardenburg Campus Care plan. There is still time to get vaccinated and avoid being sick over the holidays.
Other Prevention Reminders
Wash your hands. Clean surfaces in your home. Stay home if you have a fever. Get your flu shot; it is still the best way to avoid getting the flu. For more information about the flu visit the flu info pages of Wardenburg and the Center for Disease Control.
