Free family therapy for youth with mood problems

Family study

Eligible families will be randomly assigned to receive either 12 sessions of family therapy, or 3 sessions of family therapy plus 3 sessions of individual therapy for the child. Both treatments focus on helping youth and their family members to understand and cope with mood swings, develop plans for preventing mood swings from getting worse, communicate more effectively, and solve family problems. Participants take part in regular research interviews and fill out questionnaires about their individual and family functioning. Treatment is free of cost, and the family receives compensation for each research interview.
