The CU Backcountry Club is hosting a Friends of Berthoud Pass avalanche awareness presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at HUMN1B50 on the University of Colorado Boulder campus.
Colorado has one of the highest avalanche fatality rates in the country and Friends of Berthoud Pass (FOBP) is committed to helping people enjoy the mountains safely in the wintertime without hurting themselves or others. They educate more than 1,200 people in basic avalanche safety and attendance at their classes continues to grow.
Founded in 2003 by a handful of dedicated volunteers, FOBP is a 501c(3) not-for-profit charitable organization committed to safety, access and public education and their efforts support the state-run Colorado Avalanche Information Center. The FOBP grassroots avalanche education curriculum follows American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) guidelines and is recognized by the American Avalanche Association.
This event is free and open to the public so bring your friends and come learn or brush up your avalanche awareness skills, they can never be too sharp!
