Financial aid can be used for a study abroad program

Did you know that you can use your financial aid package on a CU-Boulder study abroad program? Your current federal, state and institutional aid and most scholarship awards apply. This means that you can use Pell and/or CU Gold grants, Stafford, Plus, Perkins, and other educational loans you may receive. Additionally there are scholarships specifically for study abroad programs.

Costs for study abroad programs vary widely. If the cost of your study abroad program is different than the total estimated cost to attend CU and live in Boulder, then your financial aid package may be adjusted - generally in the form of Parent Plus loans - to reflect the lower or higher cost of your study abroad program.

Do you know how much you spend for a semester studying & living in Boulder? If you compare the costs of studying & living in Boulder, you might be surprised at how similar in cost study abroad can be. Study abroad programs’ costs are available on our website and include a comparison to CU-Boulder estimated costs for the comparable term in Boulder. This way you can calculate what the difference in cost for a semester abroad would be. In some cases you may be able to save money by studying abroad!
