Come learn effective ways to quit smoking and begin to evaluate your readiness for change. Cessation methodologies from the behavioral health and medical fields will be presented in this 1.5 hour workshop.
Janeen Haller-Abernethy is a graduate-level social worker focusing on behavior change to support healthier lifestyles. Her work with the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program at CU-Boulder has focused on behavior changes that create healthier lifestyles as well as stress reduction in relationships and in the workplace.

Come learn simple, gentle and effective tips for putting a little extra spring in your step this season.

Coping with Stress

Stress reduction is a concern for everyone in these busy and uncertain times. In this educational and participatory lunch and learn, we will learn and practice several different effective strategies for reducing everyday life stress, including mindfulness, cognitive restructuring, and emotional health and regulation.
Mindfulness based stress reduction techniques have been consistently documented as highly effective in:
• Decreasing physical and psychological symptoms
• Increase ability to relax
• Reduction in pain levels
• Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
• Improved self-esteem
• Ability to cope more effectively
Paulette Erickson England is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the Staff Counselor for the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, and mother of two children. Paulette’s background is in prevention programs in Community Social Work and private practice offering support to women through all the stages of life. She is also a mindfulness teacher and practitioner with 12 years of experience.
Violence in Older Adult Relationships

Violence in relationships can be unique among adults, ages 40+. Learn about relationship and dating violence and the unique factors that impact Gen Xers and Baby Boomers. Resources for help and additional information will be provided.
Anne Tapp has served as Executive Director at Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) since 1997. Prior to holding this position, she was the SPAN Shelter Program Director for six years and has an accomplished history of working in the nonviolence movement as an advocate, organizer, trainer, leader and administrator over the past 25 years. Anne sits on numerous local and statewide boards and task forces addressing domestic violence and related issues. She has served on the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence board and Child Advocacy Task Force, coordinated the development of cross-training curricula for domestic violence programs and Child Protective Services, and served as the representative for domestic violence victims and victim organizations on the Colorado Domestic Violence Offender Management Board from 2000-2007. Currently, Anne is Co-Chair of the Boulder County Elder Justice Coalition which addresses improved response to and prevention of abuse in later life.

Debt, poor spending habits, and lack of similar financial goals can create stress in relationships. Learn how finances can impact intimate relationships and how individuals’ view/use of money can cause individual and family stress. Learn practical information about how you relate emotionally to money and how spouses and partners can create financial compromises to reduce strain in the relationship. Compulsive and chronic overspending as well as other dysfunctional money behaviors and applicable treatment options will be addressed.
Janeen Haller-Abernethy, MSW is a therapist with the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program. In addition, she works as a Wellness and Lifestyle Coach. She is particularly interested in addressing behaviors that create preventable health and emotional distress.
