The 11th annual CU Poetry Slam is set to take place in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom on Friday, March 7. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. After many poets auditioned and tried out to be a part of CU history, 10 skilled CU poets prevailed and are ready to compete for the title of Poetry Slam Champion. However, CU’s annual Poetry Slam has not always been this big.
CU’s Poetry Slam has evolved from a small event in room UMC 235 with all levels of poets performing, to a competitive audition process that has in the past pitted college students from across Colorado against each other. Previous winners have gone on to audition and join professional poetry slam teams in Denver; the ninth annual CU Poetry Slam winner won a poetry slam in New Zealand while studying abroad last fall. Poetry Slam has become a tradition on CU-Boulder’s campus, and it looks like it’s here to stay.
