Sixteen University of Colorado Boulder faculty and staff members recently received 2013 Marinus G. Smith Recognition Awards from the CU Parents Association (CUPA). The award recognizes CU-Boulder faculty and staff who have had a significant impact on CU-Boulder’s undergraduate student population. Students and parents were asked to nominate candidates who were deserving of this recognition.
This year’s recipients are Tiffany A. Anderson, Director, Leeds Scholars in Leeds School of Business; Dr. Joanne Belknap, Professor, Sociology; Dr. Loriliai Biernacki, Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies, Department of Religious Studies; Dr. Caroline Conzelman, Associate Director, Global Studies & Anthropology Residential Academic Program; Dr. Teresa Foley, Research Associate and Instructor, Integrative Physiology; Dr. Joan Gabriele, Director, Special Undergraduate Enrichment Programs; Dr. Suranjan Ganguly, Associate Professor, Film Studies; Bernard Gillett, Senior Instructor, Baker Natural Sciences and the Environment Residential Academic Program; Matthew Hartman, Graduate Student and Calculus Instructor, Math Department; Palmer J. Hoyt, Head Coach, CU Freestyle Ski Team; Dr. Jeffrey Knutsen, Faculty, Mechanical Engineering; Matthew R. Morris, Faculty, Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering; Dr. Heidi Souder, Faculty, Baker Residential Academic Program; Mr. Nii Armah Sowah, Senior Instructor, Department of Theatre and Dance; Terri Willis, Director of Human Resources, Facilities Management; Sandra Vasconez, Senior Instructor, Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering.
The awards were presented during a ceremony earlier this month by CUPA President Jack Odom and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Deb Coffin. The award is named for Marinus G. Smith, a Colorado pioneer who made significant financial and land donations to the University allowing it to locate in Boulder at the base of the Flatirons.
