Today, the University of Colorado Boulder Police Department (UCPD) conducted their annual training exercises on active shooter response called Rapid Emergency Deployment training. The exercise was held on the East Campus in the currently unoccupied McAllister Building on Discovery Drive.
UCPD dispatchers and police officers train frequently for active shooter incidents, and they work frequently with local law enforcement agencies.
The department strongly encourages all CU students, faculty and staff to watch the “Shots Fired” video on the CU Police website: http://bit.ly/ShotsFiredVideo. This video (which requires a CU affiliate’s online password) informs the public on what they should do if an active shooter incident occurs. The City of Houston has also produced an informative video on active shooter response called “RUN. HIDE. FIGHT. Surviving an Active Shooter Event.” We encourage the public to view this 6-minute video at http://bit.ly/RunHideFight.
