CU-Boulder lands two top 100 international rankings

Center for World University Rankings

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) recently released its 2012 ranking of the top 100 degree-granting institutions of higher education.

This is the first year for the CWUR rankings, which combine a measurement of quality of the learning environment as well as research achievement. Unlike other ranking standards, the CWUR aims for objectivity by not relying on surveys and university submissions to calculate its results. The seven indicators used by CWUR include: quality of faculty, top journal publications, highly influential research, citations, patents, student academic training and the professional future of alumni.

CU-Boulder is ranked 46 in the list; 34 among U.S. institutions and 11 among U.S. public comprehensive institutions.

Times Higher Education Top 200

With a top-end ranking for research influence boosting its score, CU-Boulder is the only Colorado university to make the Times Higher Education ranking of world universities.

The Times Higher Education magazine and website is based in the United Kingdom, and developed the 13 performance indicators that comprise its ranking system in concert with Thomson Reuters and 50 higher education professionals from 15 countries. The indicators are grouped into five categories: teaching, research, citations/research influence, innovation and international outlook.

CU-Boulder ranked 77 on the list with an overall score of 57.3. The highest indicator score was for citations (98.2 points) followed by research (42.6) and teaching (39.5).
