The first phase of construction on a campus utility system is beginning this week. Once complete in 2014, the system will provide efficient heating, cooling and power capacity, while significantly reducing the university’s carbon emissions. Read more about the project on the current construction projects website.
As the project unfolds over the next two years, it will have visible impacts on campus. The three main components of the work are renovation of the existing campus Power House on 18th Street; construction of a separate, new heating and cooling plant near Coors Events Center; and installation of new utility distribution systems.
In the coming weeks, expect to see construction work along Kittredge Loop Road and 18th Street, in order to install new utilities. Excavation is also beginning on the new heating and cooling plant near Coors Events Center, bringing increased truck traffic to the area. Later this fall, more underground utility work will occur near C4C.
Please follow all signs and detours in the vicinity of construction zones. Facilities Management will work to minimize disruptions and keep the campus updated as the project unfolds.
