Change to display name management will give more control to account owners

With the impending retirement of CULink and the moving of e-mail accounts to Gmail and Microsoft Office 365, the way display names are managed will change too. A display name is the name in the From line that an e-mail recipient sees. This change will not impact the delivery of e-mail, but in some cases, it might change the way someone’s name appears on outgoing e-mails. Learn more.

Starting April 16, display names for e-mail accounts (the sender name a recipient sees) will be managed in one of two ways depending upon how one accesses their e-mail account. In some cases you will be able to change your display name in your e-mail program (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) and for others you will have to change it using CU-Boulder Identity Manager. There is no action necessary on the part of e-mail account owners; however, you can learn more about how to change your display name depending upon how you access your account by going to www.colorado.edu/oit/email/display-name.

This change will effectively move the campus back to a place of alignment with Internet standards and give e-mail account owners more control over their display name. If you have questions about this e-mail display name change or about e-mail services in general, please contact the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357 (5-HELP from a campus phone) or e-mail help@colorado.edu. Phone help is available: Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.; and

Saturday and Sunday, noon-6 p.m.
