Call for applications: Adaptation Decision-Making and Environmental communication summer internship in Africa

The CU-Boulder Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre Internship Program seeks applications for summer internships in Southern and East Africa. Graduate students interested in climate change communication and adaptation decision-making should apply by Nov. 1.

The CU-Boulder Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre Internship Program seeks to improve climate change communication and adaptation decision-making in response to climate variability and change within the humanitarian sector. It connects humanitarian practitioners from the Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre with science-policy graduate student researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder. This internship program will place graduate students in Red Cross field offices in Southern and East Africa for approximately three months during the summer of 2014. Students will design their program of work in conjunction with their CU-Boulder advisor and a Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre supervisor.

Projects can encompass, but are not limited to, topics such as: the use of scientific information in decision-making, communication of probability and uncertainty, perceptions of risk, and characterizing vulnerability and adaptive capacity. Applications are due Nov. 1. Successful candidates will have demonstrated interests in the Southern and/or East African regions and environmental communication and/or adaptation decision-making. The program is sponsored by the CU-Boulder Outreach Committee, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research, and the Environmental Studies Program.
