Announcing the Personnel and Payroll Liaison training program

After the successful completion, assessment and refinement of last year's Personnel and Payroll Liaison (PPL) Training Program, I am pleased to announce the 2013 PPL training initiative! This initiative is an extension of the Department of Human Resources' (HR) outreach efforts and is in direct response to requests from PPLs and PeopleSoft HRMS (HRMS) end users. It represents a collaborative effort with participation among various units in Human Resources, Student Employment, the Office of International Education, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate School, University Risk Management, and Payroll and Benefits Services.

The PPL training program will be offered from April through July 2013 and is designed to enhance the effectiveness of PPLs and HRMS end users. The program will include information about HR-related contacts and resources, as well as policy and procedures regarding employee leave requirements, interviewing, hiring, time collection, on-the-job injury, compensation, record keeping, etc. The program consists of a series of 13 modules, each addressing various processes and procedures for managing classified staff, officers and exempt professionals, student employees, 12 month faculty and research faculty.

As with last year, this year's program will offer an opportunity for PPLs to participate in labs which will allow attendees to apply skill sets learned in sessions to case studies presented in the lab, while interacting live on HRMS. The three modules that will offer labs this cycle are: Recruitment and Selection Processes for Classified and Exempt Professional Staff, Hiring Work Study and Hourly Student Employees, and My.Leave. Participation in labs is optional and not a requirement for certification purposes.

Though not mandatory, I strongly encourage all PPLs to participate in the program. We recognize that PPLs possess varying levels of experience and HR-related competencies; therefore, we have structured the program with flexibility. PPLs may attend one, several or all of the modules ranging from 2 to 3 hours in length. Participants have a 2 year cycle to complete all of the modules and upon completion, they will be certified in the program. The
2 year time frame for certification allows PPLs who attended some of the modules in the 2012 program to be certified once they attend the remaining modules in the 2013 program. 

There is a maximum capacity of 60 participants per session, and pre-registration is required. Registration is also required to attend a lab which has a maximum capacity of 20 participants.   1. Logon to your campus myCUinfo portal.
  2. Click on the CU Resources tab.
  3. In the column on the left, click 'Training'.
  4. From the options that appear, click 'Start SkillSoft'.
  5. Click “Catalog”
  6. In the “Catalog” window click “Instructor Led Training” folder
  7. Click CU Boulder: PPL folder to view course titles
  8. Click the course title, and then [Launch] (this opens a separate window for sessions)
  9. Click on the Session (e.g. B10016-0001) you want to attend (at bottom of the page)
  10. Click [Enroll Me] at the bottom of the page
