The intersection of 18th and Colorado will close to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for approximately two months beginning May 15, 2013. Parking spaces and sidewalks near the intersection will be unavailable starting May 13. The closure will accommodate construction in the vicinity of the intersection, with the following goals:
• Improving pedestrian safety for the corner of 18th and Colorado and adjacent sidewalk areas
• Upgrading ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) parking spaces
• Replacing existing storm sewer systems and water lines in the street
• Adding new chilled water supply lines for increased building comfort in the area
The closure will allow the road to reopen to two-way traffic one month sooner than if the road remained open to one-way traffic during the project, and will substantially reduce project costs. It has the added benefit of providing a cushion in the project schedule in the event of unforeseen circumstances during the construction. The work is expected to be completed before the fall semester begins.
Bus routes and pedestrian/bicycle traffic will be re-routed during the project, with signage and wayfinding provided. For information about bus routes, please visit www.rtd-denver.com. Please follow all detours and exercise caution in the area. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank campus users for their patience during this project.
